The great Wali from Konya : Alaeddin Konevi

One of the biggest Awlia’.He was a Fiqh,Qalam,Tafsir, Usul and literature scholar. His real name is Ali Bin Ismail Bin Yusuf el Konevi, recorded as Ebu’l Hassan and well known as Alaeddin. He was born on 1270 M (668 H)  in Konya, Turkey. He was then breath his last at Syam on 1328 M (728 H).
Alaeddin Konevi was grown up in the place where he was born, Konya. At the beginning of 1293 M he went to Syam (now known as places around Syria, Jordan etc) . In Syam, he was learning knowldeges from the scholars : Ibrahim Bin Omer, Ibnu Asakir, Dimyati, Zemlekani, Omer Bin Kavvas, Abn Dakiku’l Iyd .By gaining the knowldges from those scholars, his Fiqah, Qalam, and Tafsir knowledges increased to the higher level.
After obtaining permission from his teachers, Alaeddin Konevi started his teaching at Madrasah Iqbaliye in Syam. After sometimes, he left his duty there and went to Cairo, Egypt and by that time he was so poor. However he didn’t asked help from anyone. Due to his condition, he became one of the teachers in Madrasah Sherifiyye and continued as administrator in dervish convent of Selahiyye

At the same time, Alaeddin Konevi was busy with Tasawwuf (Sufism). He was having very systematic life. Every day he was busy with gaining knowledge until afternoon and surely never forget about performing salah. He ate little during afternoon, and went out from home when want to visit friends , patients or  helping someone. He spent the left part of the day by worshiping Allah taala.

Gross anatomy: What’s a first-year medical student to do?

Selam! I just found out ths article from kevinmd.com, a very useful website for young doctors out there. Have a read :)

By far one of the most unique experiences first-year medical students can have is working in the gross anatomy lab. From the potent smell of formaldehyde to the chill of the ventilation, the anatomy lab provides a visceral experience that is hard to forget. The thought that the cadavers on display were once living beings and are now about to be dissected can overwhelm even the most stoic student. Human anatomy is hard enough to learn when displayed neatly in a book, but combining it with a cadaver can unsettle anyone. What’s a first-year medical student to do? Should she spend every available minute in the lab? Or should she just learn anatomy from a book and hope everything will look the same on the practical examination?

The best way to learn anatomy is using both methods — dissecting cadavers and studying the book. The least efficient way to do this is to simply show up in the anatomy lab unprepared. To avoid wasting time, you need to enter the anatomy lab with a plan. If you don’t know what you’re looking for, you can waste countless hours in the lab looking at pictures and hoping you don’t cut something vital. If you’re already familiar with the anatomy you’re trying to learn, both the dissection and identification will proceed more quickly and smoothly. Learning the anatomy from a neatly displayed and labeled anatomy text takes less time initially than does learning on a messy, unlabeled cadaver. Thus, the most efficient way to approach the anatomy lab is to first learn what the anatomy is supposed to look like by studying textbooks or lecture slides. Once you know what things are supposed to look like, you’ll have an easier time recognizing those parts in the cadaver.

Most medical students usually ask what kind of time they need to spend in the lab. Some students seem to practically sleep there, while others seldom show up. We’ve already established that those who have studied and are familiar with what the anatomy is supposed to look like will spend less time in the lab. But suppose you already know the anatomy reasonably well. How much time should you spend with the cadaver, considering that you will be responsible for knowing a long list of items? Some of these are easy to find (large muscle groups), while others are damn near impossible to find (small nerves). Of course, every cadaver is slightly different, so while one muscle may be hard to find in one cadaver, it could be easy to find in another. For this reason, it’s wise to make every effort to examine a few cadavers. Know that some items are almost impossible to find no matter which body you choose to examine. Many medical students end up spending large amounts of time looking for almost-impossible-to-find structures such as the thoracic duct. The question becomes whether you should spend extra time trying to identify every single structure.

Not surprisingly, the principle of diminishing returns applies here as well. If you wish to find every item on every list, you’ll spend most of your time searching for the harder-to-find items. Think of this as searching for the proverbial needle in a haystack. Suppose you really want to find the ligamentum teres and decide that you won’t leave the lab until you’ve found it. You might end up spending a half hour searching multiple bodies before you finally identify this structure. You need to ask yourself if the discovery of the ligamentum teres is worth half an hour of your time. For those bent on achieving a perfect score, the answer is yes. For most other medical students, the answer is no. If you know the anatomy well, you can assume that the harder an item is for you to find, the harder it is to find for the faculty as well. This doesn’t mean the ligamentum teres, for example, won’t show up on a practical exam; it just means that it has a lower probability of showing up. In my experience, having studied anatomy thoroughly, when I was unable to find an item on an already-dissected cadaver in under a minute, it seldom showed up on the exam.

Golden memories in Ankara

"Kenyataan hari ini adalah mimpi hari kelmarin.Mimpi hari ini adalah kenyataan esok hari' -ISHAB

without realizing it has been almost 3 years i spent my life in Turkey. seriously seems time is flowing so fast n made me questioned myself wht i've done within this 2 n half years :( hows my daily ibadah, hows my relationship with Allah, His creations esp my parents, siblings, friends n all people around me. how much knowledge ive gained. my eagerness in seeking knowldge how. my understanding in Islam etc.

the best dua 'O Allah dont let me be under my control even in a blink of an eye'

actually now i feel 'consciousness' of benefits living in this jemaat house. i did but as a human i keep forgetting n didnt grab much benefits from it, that what i noticed the weakness of myself. here in jemaat house every morning n evening we do read tesbihat. its like mathurat but compilation of dua n zhikr by Risalah annur students. i started to learn more about risalah annur once i came here. i heard about it and even attended some risalah annur courses when  back in malaysia. im so lucky to live in a residential area where risalah annur lessons being conducted by one of the turkish jemaah ,Hayrat Vakfi. almost every weekend the turkish n malay ablalar(sisters) gathered in that madrasah,a rented house in B.b.Bangi which just located 3 min from by house by walking. but since i was in boarding school for 2 years i didnt get much opportunity to join them ,i just had chances to join twice  during school break. so in that madrasah i got to know with some Turk sisters from Hayrat n met Arwah Ahmad Ammar's mom ,makcik ina there. here in turkey im not staying with Hayrat since there is no nearest Hayrat home for girls around my area. im staying here with another jemaat which based on Risalah annur also,Hizmet. yeah after some political issues happened some people against ths jemaat n even the students who are living in their house splashed with all those sarcastic stuffs but since im here just for seeking knowledge i guess i shouldnt involve in their political thinking besides just   grab the positive side from them.this jemaat by Fethullah Gulen has opening Turkish schools around the world even in Malaysia they hve TIME international school and i really appreciate their efforts in managing schools esp in African countries,Afghanistan etc. so here im staying with 5 turkish girls whom are also from the same faculty,so its easier n benefits me much for my studies since i really need supports from surrounding people to push me into my  medical study in turkish language.

"And seek help through patience and prayer, and indeed its difficult except for the humbly submissive to Allah"

- Albaqarah: 45-

before i fly to Turkey ,my dad reminded me if possible never stay in a house with other Malay students otherwise  my Turkish skills wont be improved due to speaking Malay most of the time. alhamdulillah once i arrived Ankara there was no other Malay students ,just a malay boy. However im so grateful there are some malay friends in nearby cities,in Kirikkale i hve a Malay senior, kak suhana which was in 2nd year of medicine when i came.i hve batchmate n besty Farah in Konya which located 2 hours by train from Ankara. n Kak zinnirah far in Balikesir who came Ankara in my first week here .so relationship with Malaysians keep going alhamdulillah n until now unbelieveable there are 10 malay students in Ankara including (tht total seems very little + compared to malay students in Egupt esp + but for me its  quite a lot since we were minority)

"WHEN THE VISION IS CLEAR,THE ACTION BECOME EASIER"

in my area there are about 20 jemaat house for medical girls' students n mostly from the same university. i love the sisterhood here n feeling lucky to be here alhamdulilah eventhough sometimes i was rebelling against the rules that  being asked to obey.

let me give a bit description about lifestyle , accomodation etc especially for malaysian students who are interested to pursue study here in Turkey. for Turkish government scholarship holders, (YTB) accomodation which is government hostel ,being covered under YTB scholar. the hostel system here is unlike in Malaysia. for example i was placed in Mehmet Akif girls' hostel which is just near to my school. but in that hostel the students are not only from my school,Gazi ,there might be students of other universities such Ankara Univ, Yildirim beyazit Univ, etc. its mixed  because normally the distance between one univ to another are not that far. in gov hostel (KYK hostel) the room system is not parallel . for ex in mehmet akif one room can place 8 girls but in another hostel there might be 4 n even 2 girls in a room. sometimes it depends on our study level either undergraduate/master or phD students. refrigerator, iron room ,canteen etc are provided.some hostels has curfew until 11 pm n if u wanna stay outside u need to take izin/permission from the dorm officer 2 days before as possible. you can request to change to another KYK hostel if there are problems.but it takes time!  another options of accomodation ,there are also private girls' dormitary. usually its more comfortable,2 girls in a room but the payment will make ur mouth shaped O :O some of my Turk friends are in private dormitory, and as i heard the payment range is between 400-900++ Turkish Lira per month. beside that,if u wanna stay more comfortable n wanna do anything that u want,u can make plan with friends to rent ur own house. in Ankara the recommended area is Kurtulus/Kolej/Dikimevi. as being told the rent is around 400-700 TL.

the house that im staying known as ogrenci evi/students' house and i got to stay here because knw some people from the society but as being mentioned there are some rules that must be obeyed. since its organised by  Islamic movement here ,the people really focus on Islamic spiritual, not to mention academic stuffs. every morning n evening we read the tesbihat that i mentioned,as protections during our days .its not something new actually coz in malaysia also we used to mathurat ,almulk esp those who are in boarding school. besides, the rule which i was rebelling most was the cay saati/tea time at night :p usually during tea time we have 30 min usrah n 30 min book reading. i was rebelling due to the usrah conducted in turkish as it was hard for me to understand esp when i was back in tomer.i felt like kinda being forced :D n at that time reading islamic book in turkish was thing i hate most coz i didnt feel real understanding in gaining  knowledge. but as time passing by i realized its good for me since by forcing me reading book ,my turkish n my reading habit improved. sometimes its quite hard for some students to obey those rules, esp for me since im a med student thus i hve my own study plan n that tea time which always being conducting around 9-10pm n sometimes even longer  'took my study time' coz im not like other girls who can stay up late at night for studying. but actually its depends . i could request to other housemates n sister who lead the house to change the tea time right after dinner and after that it goes smoothly. besides spending just an hour for islamic stuffs we would be able to focus on academic :)

.but frankly im more interested on programs being conducted in hayrat house since besides reading book they are focusing on teaching Quran tajwid,Turkish ottoman writing(osmanlica), risalah annur written in osmanlica etc there are pros m cons

arwah Ahmad Ammar was also living in hayrat house when he was a student of Ankara TOMER in Golbasi. he was one year senior to me ,once he finished TOMER (turkish course). he got admitted to Marmara Univ in Istanbul n i came Ankara for TOMER n medical studies. may Allah put mercy upon his soul.He was hitted by a an ambulance in Fatih Istanbul on 3 November 2013 on his way to usrah with brothers. He was a well-akhlak ,untalkative and i could say 'perfect student' masallah.

Eventhough by the time i reached Ankara for TOMER  n he already started 1st year degree in Istanbul, we met sometimes in Malaysian programs in Istanbul. since at that Malaysian students in Turkey was less than 15 (if im not mistaken)we got to knw each other well. He even came to Ankara with his friends  when we had International Student Gathering by AsmaKopru+YTB n they helped us in managing Malaysian booth as we were 2 in Ankara. At that time it was Maulud Nabi celebration so Maher Zain n Mesut Kurtis was invited for Maulud Nabi program in Ulus,Ankara. so we went to the concert programs with my international team.

My life experience as a foreign @ Malaysian medical student in Turkey-ANKARA

It had been a while since i left my dusty blog without any new posts. i keep writing actually but just feel lazy to post my writings here. actually i wrote this new post when i first had my first year in medical school (+ edited). yeah. the fact is it has been almost a year and not need to get surprise if i say im still in a first year. again? yeah again. it was the toughest stuff to be accepted. it was painful. but remember. let bygone be bygone. i started new life with new spirit and insallah for this time evrything will go smoothly.

"Say:Travel in the earth and see how He makes the first creation, then Allah creates the latter creation, surely Allah has power over all things" Al-ankabut:20

"Travelling brings the culture and the picture of the people and lands very near to anyone and a person not only learns and verifies what he has already gathered about these places and people from books but he has also chance learning many other important and FIRST-HAND things which he would never learnt from his books. One picks up a foreign language (turkish ) in a short time by actually residing within a country which is foreign and when one picks this foreign labguage one also does so very accurately which no grammar on the language could ever teach anyone"

It is through travelling that I come in touch with the different people of unknown lands or region, from different'planets',colourful backgrounds, really make me learn the things that my own region does not provide or has the means or opportunity of providing.people keep asking whether is it hard to stay billion miles away from family etc. yeah it is hard. eventhough sometimes i do feel homesick and feel like wanna go home NOW! but vallah without realizing im getting used to it. fassobrul jameel. patient is good. sucessful wont come without having patience. people even ask. "why dont you just pursue study in your own country? is the education there not good enough compared to education system here in Turkey? " noooo seriously i admitted that education system in Malaysia is good enough. and even foreign students keep coming to Malaysia for education.but im not saying its better in all field. some people who know the quality of education in Malaysia will say "if i were you i will stay study there" . but i do believe Allah sent me here for a reason. If Allah loves a people He puts them to trial He tests them and places them in difficulty

"There are many courses of studies which deal thoroughly of foreign land, language and people. But theoretical knowledge is always insufficient and only when this theoretical knowledge is supplemented by a practical knowledge and experience, the former attains fulfilment. Seeing is believing, one may read and may also commit to memory about the people and countries of distant places situated all over the world, but unless one has the fortune of going out to these countries and sees for oneself the things that one has read with one's own eyes"

"One has to spread out ,move out alone among the strangers ,find out the fortunes of varying natures and conditions which make them realise that there are all types of sitiations in this world just as there are so many types of customs and regulations. After one has travelled far and wide ,one is sure to find so many contradictory customs and habits of the people in all sorts of lands, climates and geographical and natural conditions that one learns not to pass a judgement on anything easily"

Just today i had a conversation with my friend from Acheh,Indonesia. Just imagine in this Gazi Medical Faculty here in Ankara, there are only a little girl from Malaysia n a little girl from Indonesia, which are both of us.there is no other students even boys who are coming from the same country. and seems we are the only from South east asian countries (owh ya. i met a 6th year senior from Myanmar) based on my observations most of the foreign students here are from Afghanistan (the highest population i guess :p) ,Azerbaijan,Iran,Saudi Arabia,Palestine ,Lubnan,Libya and there are also a classmate from Greece (turk). on"

"Sometimes life-long friendships are established with foreigners and interchange of views brings and opens the vistas many other interchanges, cultural, social, political and so on"

Im studying in fully turkish lessons class while my Aceh friend are studying in which lessons conducted in english. English? wow seems luckyy. but waitt. for readers' informations, generally here in Turkey , they do said lectures are conducting in English, but never put 100% hope on it since you will see some lecturers still explain lessons in Turkish language which make you mouth shaped 'O'. thats normal situations confronted by foreigner students who are studying in English medical class.

Eventhough im from turkish class, sometimes if i do have extra times i do participate in English medical lessons or refer their slides for better understanding since the notes are fully in English. Eventhough both of me and Wanti already can communicate in Turkish,(and even sometimes speak little Turkish to each other instead of speaking bahasa :p) we still confronting problems with our lessons. but i think this friend confronted bigger challenges when she was in first year as when i was attending TOMER,which is Turkish Preparation Course for 8 months, she already started her 1st year medicine in that class instead of attending TOMER since at that time there was new rule by goverment scholarship which saying that those who are going to have lessons in english no need to attend TOMER but must submit TOMER certificate within 2 years. you cant imagine when you first attend that medical lessons with only little Turkish basic, then the lecturers explained everything in Turkish, you just rely on your English Notes to pass the exams. then you need to learn Turkish language by yourself in order to submit that certificate and pay the language exams fee by your own! thats what my friend was confronting! now i realized even i keep saying im having difficulties with medical lessons here, bla bla bla::: still what my friend had experienced might be tougher than i what i had. at least i had 8 months turkish preparation course and attended medical lessons fully in turkish with turkish language on mind.yeah it still difficult. but if put all the laziness away and what we call in turkish,"bahaneler" means smthg that just to distract, insallah i could be successful student aminnn.

but yeaah. its scary you know when you heard last 2 years there were about 80 students who had failed on first year studies and need to repeat their whole first year study. and out of 30 foreign students there, less than 8 who had passed and the rest who failed were turkish(and now i felt what they felt )and the foreign students who passed last year were those who repeated in previous year. Allah korusun. May Allah protect us.

There is no doubt how tough medical field is and its getting tougher to learn medicine in this foreign language . actually not only for medicine! dont think your course is the toughest compared to others! its normal for foreign students as i mentioned. after had conversation with my Malaysian friends who are studying in Spain and South Korea, i realized that im not the only one who are in such trouble. they do having lessons fully in spanish+catalonian ,and Korean language (future engineers)

Back to Gazi Tip ,for first year students there are 3 different classes,an english conducting class and 2 turkish conducting class. since last year the quota for first year students are 'exploded',they divided turkish classes into two group A n B. in my class there are about 280 students and less than 10 are foreign students i guess. sometimes i couldnt even detect who are foreigners and who are Turkish. because as i heard there are some students from Azerbaijan and they are already Turk and speak almost similar language with Turkish so we didnt count them as foreigner other foreign that i know are Afghans, palestinian, the other foreign students are in english class (this year there are a lott arab students from KSA). sometimes we do have same labarotary lessons with students who are in english class. and that made me feel whaaat, i wanna join other foreign students theree. the teachers just explaining to thdm in english in another table next to us. but in order to get used to turkish terms, i stayed with other turkish students.alone.::: i do feel special at the same time
i realized last year i had problem in adapting myself in the class ,lessons. maybe other foreign students feel the same. this is always happen. once the lessons started i started feeling sleepy and sluggish because my mind couldnt accept the teaching is trying to convey.sometimes i shouted to myself "how i wish my mother tongue is turkish! i wish i dont feel the gaps being a foreigner!i wish no one realize that im a foreigner! and i wish evryone treat me like other student, not as a foreign student!i wish im a cheerful girl who can make evryone smile! i wish and i wish..."that was things that keep disturbing mee.poor girl. now im changed inshallah. whatever it is i must continue this jihad. learn from pst mistakes.

"The greater the hardship The greater the reward.the greater the difficulty, trial or tribulation the greater the reward will be for us from Allah."

before this when i was back in homeland i always wanted to be in this condition.,i mean experience live as a foreign student in an alien land. but its not that easy when the time come for you to adapt with evryone, surrounding. . when i was in school, people regarded me as a "silent student" since i wasnt that talkative. until now. but if people know me (family besties )well they know that ...hmm this girl is quite talkative :)sometimes if i dont have something necessary things to talk about i do keep silent. until many people always ask me" why dont you talk. why dont you laugh" the blurred moment when teachers and students were laughing in class because teached make joke and you keep silent and dont even smile for me there is nothing funny.lol . maybe because i have problems due to language barrier. when i was in TOMER alhamdulillah evrything was fine. seriously i could adapt with evryone well alhamdulillah .maybe because the surroundings are different. everyone there were foreign student like me,so we didnt feel gaps between us much except when any of us speak turkish better than others.just a small competition not like now i have to compete with hundreds of Turkish students . but there is nothing impossible as long as we put 100% trust on Allah, put effort ,confident and tawakkal. thats the only secrets.

Evryone will confront moments of grief, moments of sadness, moments when things are not as they feel or would like to be.But the difference is patient, the believer believes in the decree of Allah, the believer seeks the reward of Allah (subhana wa ta3ala) at that time
